Cafe Society is set in the 1930s. The movie is about a tale of two cities. One of the characters Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg) is a young man from a Jewish family in the Bronx, New York. Bobby has a domineering and nagging mother (Jeannie Berlin) and a sardonic father (British actor Ken Stott).
Bobby’s family members are different in a weird way. His brother Ben (Corey Stoll) is a cheerily gangster who lacks moral sense and also ready to resolve an issue by burying anybody that does not agrees with him in cement. His sister on the other hand is a teacher with a prissy intellectual husband. With Bobby’s sister a teacher and brother an amoral gangster, his uncle Phil is a big shot agent in Hollywood.
With a 1930 setting, Allen made the CAfe Society movie look magical. The Cafe Society movie is full of glamorous movie stars and also studio executives in tuxedos and white suits and tuxedos, in their sleek modernist homes.
While looking for an exciting career, Bobby Dorfman leaves his New York home for the glitz and glamour of 1930s Hollywood.
He landed a job with his uncle, and falls for Vonnie. Vonnie is a charming woman who also happens to be his uncle’s mistress. Bobby settles for friendship, but his heart is ultimately heartbroken.
Bobby goes back to Bronx and starts working in a nightclub. Just when everything begins to fall into place, with his new romance with a beautiful socialite, Vonnie walks back into his life and also captures his heart again.Â
The plot of Cafe Society puts Bobby and his uncle Phil in an unknowingly competition for the same woman, Phil’s beautiful secretary, Vonnie (played with ingenuous charm by Stewart).
Bobby is a go-getter and can also be just as ruthless as his gangster brother (albeit a little subtle in his methods). He also seems quite confused by his own feelings. Bobby also seems unsure on why he might prefer Vonnie to the beautiful socialite Veronica (Blake Lively).
In this Cafe Society review, the movie is quite crafted beautifully and well performed. The Cafe Society movie also ends on a surprising and moving note as the characters, Cafe Society director pondered on the roads not taken They also speculate on what might have been.
